Short Poems About Time

birds perch
in sheltering branches —
a grain of mustard seed

(Matthew 13: 31-32)

*

years on the roads
pass through my mind
returning home
and in the yard
first tulip leaves

*

sometimes
many years
needed to write
a poem
in a few minutes

*

rereading poems
from a decade or more ago
God’s faithfulness

*

years go by
leaves fall
time of rest
then rebirth
God’s time
not mine

*

“birds perch” was published in TIME OF SINGING (1995).
