Some day I hope to create a book with my poems for the language arts.

There is a nice selection of Flower Images at Reusable Art.

Poems and Flowers

I wonder how many poems
the trees have given to me
as I pray the Psalms
and read poems by poets
written over so much time
that passes too soon

clouds with some blue
outside my study window
some days God seems so clear
other days I must dwell more deeply
in my reading of the Psalms

praying the Psalms . . .
other times and places
cross my mind
and I am blessed
by God’s love
and care
once again

Thy statutes have been my songs
in the house of my pilgrimage.

Psalm 119: 54 (KJV)

July and Creative Notes

sunny morning
with no wind
the quiet image
of orange daylilies
in bloom

early morning
hosta flowers grow
above the windowsill

Saturday morning
so happy with the plants
we bought on sale

early Sunday
raindrops in some light
on evergreen branches

one yellow leaf
on the birch tree
late July

Creative Note: My poems were published first at Poems From Oostburg, Wisconsin. I am writing short poems to describe moments as they happen. Later I may see a sequence and then reprint in one post.

Poems in this post are by Ellen Grace Olinger, 2019.

Creative Note: I am reading a used book I bought from Amazon: Sightseers into Pilgrims, A Sampler of Contemporary Christian Poets. Edited, and with an Introduction by Luci Shaw. Copyright 1973 by Tyndale House Publishers, Wheaton, Illinois. Excellent poems, and I have also read Luci Shaw’s books of poetry and memoirs for many years. I enjoy both new and used books, and also look for discards from libraries when I order. I like seeing where the book was and the library information. A book from a thrift store may include a gift note. How wonderful to consider the journey of a book!

Poems old and new, and recent photos by Karl:

after the storm

of the broken tree

rain and
near my window
first daylilies bloom

a new bridge
on an old road

The ash tree stump is a beautiful place now for a begonia. Hosta plants surround the stump. A wonderful image of healing and renewal.

Hosta will flower soon.
