late-day sun
on the gravestones
we shall meet again
My parents had January birthdays, in 1915 and 1917.
blue gloves rest
on wheelbarrow of weeds
autumn work
colder weather
time for my favorite coat
from a thrift store
country roads
farmers prepare their fields
for winter
winter rain
snow fences
ready to unroll
growing older
goldenrod and roses
refreshed by rain

I mourned
irises
I wrote this haiku some time ago. The gardens were a great comfort after my mother’s passing (2004). And they continue to inspire and offer images of hope.
In honor of Memorial Day 2020, Karl and I are now members of the Wisconsin Historical Society. I note their work about COVID-19: BIG history is happening.
