July to August

summer
watching the sky change
and sunrise
plants and flowers
in the gardens
another year
in hosta time

August sunrise

no longer on earth
old address book

not yet written
in the overflowing book
cards and envelopes
with last known

still wanting to remember
what may no longer
be current – places I was
people I knew

We are beginning work on a second large print chapbook, in the same style as Quiet Christmas Poetry.  Copies of the Christmas book can be ordered from the Time Of Singing books page.

The theme of the new book is Wisconsin Seasons and Encouragement.  My haiku, “birds perch,” seems to belong in the new book.

Today I am reading Time Of Singing: A Journal Of Christian Poetry (Volume 44, Number 3; Winter 2017/18).  Lora Homan Zill is Editor.  Violet Nesdoly is the Contributing Editor for this issue.

Grief And Acceptance

over Lake Michigan
as I listen to old hymns
my heart gathers peace
for this day
