Creative Notes

A quiet and grey morning here.  I am listening to Peace in the Puzzle, solo harp instrumentals, by Amy Shreve, and praying the Psalms.

The Fall 2018 Time Of Singing (TOS) arrived recently.  Lora Homan Zill is Editor.  She suggests that if we are looking for Christmas gift ideas, a subscription to TOS is an idea to consider.

We are beginning work on a second large print chapbook, in the same style as Quiet Christmas Poetry.  Copies of the Christmas book can be ordered from the Time Of Singing books page.

The theme of the new book is Wisconsin Seasons and Encouragement.  My haiku, “birds perch,” seems to belong in the new book.

Today I am reading Time Of Singing: A Journal Of Christian Poetry (Volume 44, Number 3; Winter 2017/18).  Lora Homan Zill is Editor.  Violet Nesdoly is the Contributing Editor for this issue.

Quiet Christmas Poetry

Under “Book Offers” in the Fall 2015 issue of Time Of Singing, Lora Homan Zill, Editor, included a picture of our Christmas book and wrote: “Light and easy to hold, with large print, it is ideal for anyone battling or recovering from serious illness, or who needs a special word of encouragement over the holiday season.”

If you wish to order a copy of Quiet Christmas Poetry, please visit the books page at Time Of Singing.  There is an ordering form that may be printed.  All proceeds benefit TOS.

Quiet Christmas Poetry is both a site and a book.

As an additional note today, I wrote this poem the first autumn after my mother’s winter passing (2004).  The lilacs have bloomed many more times since then.

At the time, the key word in this poem for me was loss.

Now I know the key word is living – and I am grateful every day.

Thank you,
Ellen Grace Olinger

Publication note: “November” was published in Hermitage: A Haiku Journal, Volume II, 2005.  Ion Codrescu, Editor.
