clouds and yet
enough light
to fill a jam jar
with the last
of the carnations

gulls lifting
from the sand
corn an inch tall

summer sun
thrift store bowl painted
with leaves and fruit

mid-August
blueberries on sale
from Canada now

poems we read
again and again
washing an old plate
the pattern
still new
